![]() All I was thinking was, REALLY, THIS is supposed to impress the audience at the start of a DS game? The DS is so capable of 3D graphics that it had Ocarina of Time on it., and Super Mario 64. Instead of the game spending its intro time showing my character going to the farm and deciding to become a farmer, although even that would be a waste of time, it wastes my time showing me the Harvest Goddess and a pretty blonde lady with a stereotypical witch’s costume but no hat glaring at each other, and some explosion thingy shows up in between them. If even THAT isn’t done perfectly, then WHOA. I’m just talking about naming things, at the start of the game. I hope it brings me seeds like in Harvest Moon 3. You start out with a cat, you don’t have to do anything to earn it. AWL let me get Scourge as a nickname from my wife just fine.Īnd the pacing was so dragged down because I had to name not just my character, but my farm, dog, AND cat. There’s no excuse for this for a DS game. ![]() I couldn’t name my character Scourge because the game has a limit on the amount of letters you can have for a name and that limit’s too small. I had to use all-caps for naming my dog Chien because no matter what, the lowercase e just wouldn’t respond. Just writing the names I wanted was a bigger pain in the ass than it had any right to be. So you can’t simply tap something and expect that to work. ![]() And my finger is, not big, but the things you’re expected to tap on the touchscreen are always smaller than your finger. This might be because I wasn’t using the stylus, I was using my nail. Anyways, the touchscreen is so unresponsive when I try to hit the e keys. It’d actually be better if it was the mayor asking you this, so that it happened in-universe. I feel better about choosing to do it.Īnd the game starts with the Harvest Goddess telling you to name a whole bunch of things. To be fair it is faster, but it’s intrusive to force it on you. “ Why? Worse, you’re forced to use the touchscreen just to name, ANYTHING. I took until the first winter to get the idea to tap the screen to get through the title screen faster, because if pressing buttons didn’t get to New Game and Continue faster, why would tapping? You’re forced to use the touchscreen to choose “ Continue “ and “ New Game. But here, it’s done for no reason and just lengthens the amount of time you’ll take to get to the title screen proper. This game does that kind of thing way too often and I never take it seriously. First of all, whenever you start up the game, until you find out that you can just tap the bottom screen at any time to skip the scene, you think you HAVE to wait through a small cutscene on the title screen where you see horizontal narrow slits where the faces of the Harvest Sprites are and it shows them glaring at each other. I made sure it was the version of the game that wasn’t insanely buggy. So I finally started a file in Harvest Moon DS.
